Barry
and Jodie's Kiwi AdventureKia Ora!
Welcome to our website!
Welcome to the continuation of our New Zealand web travel journal. If this is your first visit, you can check out the first installment of our journal by going to "First Days in Wellington" . It will take you to a different website hosted on a different server. Our pictures take up so much space that we had to move to a different hosting service to continue the story!
If you're a first time visitor, Jodie is here as an Ian Axford Fellow in Public Policy. Funded by the NZ government, it's a fellowship that brings 2 mid-career public policy types here to NZ to study specific issues and produce a paper. Jodie is working out of the Ministry for Social Development, NZ's largest government agency, looking at the implementation of government paid family leave and sick leave policies, with a particular emphasis on low-wage workers. Barry is on leave from Fannie Mae. He's doing a few international business development assignments for the company, but is mostly energetically pursuing his own research into outdoor recreation in NZ, as well as web-site building and maintenance!
Please don't be strangers! We'd love to hear from you about the website, news from home, friends and families, etc. You can email Barry with comments at barryzigas@earthlink.net, or Jodie at jodiehome@earthlink.net.
How This Site Is Organized
I've tried to set this up so that pages don't take too long to load, even when they're chock full of photos, which most of these are. Consequently, I've got links to specific entries, like our Active New Zealand Rimu trip in January, 2004, that have multiple pages. This cuts down the time they take to reach your computer, and allow me to add more detail and photos. Most of the pictures in the text are "thumbnails," meaning if you put the cursor over them and left click you'll see a much larger sized picture. This also helps the formatting and download time. If you're in doubt, run your cursor over the picture. If you see the little hand, you can enlarge it. Once you have enlarged the picture and enjoyed it, you return to the text by left-clicking on the "Back" button on your browser bar.
The original entry in this journal was posted to an Earthlink site and describes our first days here in Wellington. It also contains pictures and descriptions of our cottage and the neighborhood we're living in. To read it, go to "First Days in Wellington." There is also a link on that site to bring you back here to continue the story.
"A South Island Adventure," tells the tale of our 2-week adventure tour in the South Island from December 29-January 11, just after we arrived and had a few days in Wellington. You can start there, or use the navigation options in the "Contents" box below that also appears on every page. Further installments will be added to the contents frame, and will be accessible by clicking on the title there. Where I've recently updated content, you'll see a "New!" label.
